This bowl-shaped depression in the ground most likely marks the location of an early brick-lined well. Such a well in the kitchen yard area would have supplied water to the plantation house and nearby outbuildings. Some planters protected their wells from debris by constructing a small house or shelter over them, composed of a roof supported by four posts.
