The brick portion of this building was probably constructed in the 2nd quarter of the 19th century and is believed to have once served as an infirmary for the slaves on this plantation, prior to emancipation. African-American women often served as mid-wives and healers, delivering babies or attending to ailments that may not have required a physician.
