A Clear Path: Project Conclusion

On Saturday, May 22, 2004, the John M. and Sara R. Walton Foundation held their annual "Hands on History Day" celebration at Poplar Hill. On that day, the Foundation introduced the newly defined path from the main house to the site where the slave quarters were located.

The flowers were planted and all of the new historic markers were installed. The new feature allowed the Foundation to identify locations where buildings once stood so that visitors get a visual sense of how the outbuildings were arranged in relationship to one another.

Bianca Floyd, at time working as a consultant to the Foundation on the African-American Heritage Program, led the first tour. This project was supported by a grant from the Prince George's Historical and Cultural Trust.

It was also supported by the participation of students and staff from Croom High School, Crossland High School and C. Elizabeth Reig Resional School.
